Info from David Malborough 10.12.2005 (through Genes Reunited)

The oldest Madeley that i have found is Thomas Madeley b c 1814 in Clay Hills Shropshire. According to the 1861 Census (RG9/1904 2 17 6) the family is living in Gnossal Staffs and consists of

William Age 47 b Clay Hills
Jane Age 49 b Gnossal and children Charlotte Age 21, Joseph Age 15, Ann Age 10, John Age 7 and Herbert Age 2.

In 1871 (RG10/4244 21 166 35 142)
the son Joseph and his family are living in Dalton St George Barrow in Furness. The family consists of
Joseph Age 25 b Gnossal
Mary Jane Age 21 b Walton le Dale Lancs (i think her maiden name was Bilsborough) and children Thomas Herbert Age 2 and Alice Jane Age 6 months, both b in Barrow.

In the next two censuses the family has expanded to include Bessie b c 1873 and Annie T b c1874 also both born in Barrow

Joseph married Mary Jane. (Mary Jane was born in 1850 in Walton le Dale Lancs.)
